ABOUT THE DIVISION

  1. A description about the division, including the name of Range and Beats
The Mon Forest Division operates under the Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change of Nagaland. Divisional forest office was established in 1967 and currently it hold Range Office in Namsa, Longshen, Mon, Naginimora, Tobu and Beat office in Aboi and Longching. DFO office estimates budget estimates, espenditure reports, audits compliance, ensuring that all financial transaction adhere to government norms. DFO office process of permits of all Timber and NTFP products. Here, the division is mandated with protection and conservation primary functions and activities include:
  1. Forest Conservation and Management
  • Movement of logs and timber through Working Schemes and Tree Farm registrations and sustainable management of forest resources like stone mining and NTFP resources
  • Protection and conservation including reserved and community forests.
  • Ensuring preservation of existing forest lands from encroachment under Mon division through the Implementation of forest conservation laws like the Indian Forest Act, 1927, and the Nagaland Forest Act.
  • Prevention of illegal logging, encroachment, and poaching.
  • Nursery Management
  1. Biodiversity Conservation
  • Preservation of flora and fauna, particularly in ecologically sensitive areas.
  • Management of protected and purchased areas under Mon division.
  • Restoration of degraded forest lands through afforestation and reforestation programs.
  1. Community Engagement and Joint Forest Management (JFM)
  • Collaboration with local communities through JFMCs for sustainable forest management
  • Promotion of traditional ecological knowledge and community-driven conservation practices.
  • Awareness programs on the importance of forests and wildlife conservation.

  • Execution, monitoring and overseeing the works of community forest.
  • Livelihood activities to generate income for the SHG community in the selected villages of NFMP
  • Capacity building of Forest Staffs through training and workshops

  • Prevention, detection, and control of forest fires.
  • Training local communities in fire management and early warning systems.
